Last fall, for the first time in many, many years, we had a “perfect” fall. No illnesses, no drama. Everything was very easy and peaceful. Perhaps it was the pessimist in me, but I distinctly having this sense that this would be the last of a “normal” life and that God was giving us this calm before the storm so to speak. I also remember thinking that 2026 was going to be a pivotal year, and not in a good way. But has that held true so far!

Whether we want to or not, we are called to run in this great marathon and have been given time to prepare spiritually, as it is mostly a spiritual one (Eph. 6).

I have felt it ever since I was young, and have squandered the time. Chasing after things that will ultimately get burned.

Sloth. Gluttony. Pride. Lust.

These are the main vices that affect nearly all of us in the west.

We were called to keep our lamps filled and our wicks trimmed, but most of us have slept. Like the apostles during Christ’s agony in the garden, we sleep while the Church undergoes her passion.

Laramie, I’ve wrestled with what to share with my 9 children over the last 26 years. I never wanted to scare them into despair, so I drip fed then scripture and “what-ifs”.

I tried to balance protecting their innocence and helping them build a proper fear of God. Most of them are now adults, and I have two grandchildren…. My wife and I both are worried sick. Not because we don’t trust God, we’re afraid of what happens to the little ones.

So we pray. We cling to The Rock while the raging river of apostasy flows and swells all around us.

And I try (and fail) to be joyful in all of this.

“My brethren, count it all joy, when you shall fall into divers temptations. Knowing that the trying of your faith worketh patience. And patience hath a perfect work; that you may be perfect and entire, failing in nothing.”

James 1:2-4

Lets always pray for each other.

God Bless
